Where a CHP can be located?

It can be housed into a facility or into a container but also into a building.

MOST COMMON COMBINED HEAT AND POWER SYSTEMS AND TECHNOLOGY

Combustion turbine or reciprocating engine CHP systems:

– burn fuel (natural gas, oil, or biogas) to turn generators to produce electricity and use heat recovery devices to capture the heat from the turbine or engine. This heat is converted into useful thermal energy, usually in the form of steam or hot water.

Steam boiler with steam turbines:

– the process begins by producing steam in a boiler. The steam is then used to turn a turbine to run a generator to produce electricity. The steam leaving the turbine can be used to produce useful thermal energy. These systems can use a variety of fuels, such as natural gas, oil, biomass, and coal.

Why CHP with reciprocating engines?

Over the last decades those engines have gone through several technical improvements and today they have reached a high level of technology that together with the high level of production make them a very reliable option at low cost. Another plus is that they can be also overhauled on site and after any stop (maintenance or overhaul) they have the fastest start-up capability. They can be put back in operation as soon as the maintenance or overhaul is over while for other CHP systems (Gas or Steam Turbines and Fuel Cells) a longer period is required after any stop.

WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL APPLICATIONS FOR A CHP?

IN INDUSTRIAL SEGMENT: in all industries having continuous processing and huge steam requirements such as Chemicals, Paper, Food and Beverage,

IN COMMERCIAL SEGMENT: where large amount of hot water and electricity are needed such as Hospitals, Hotels, Nursing Homes, Office Building, Swimming pool, Laundries,

IN INSTITUTIONAL SEGMENT: University, Kindergarten, Schools, Prisons, Military Bases and Residential

IN MUNICIPAL SEGMENT: district energy systems, wastewater treatment facilities

CHP IS USED IN OVER 4,400 LARGE BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES NATIONWIDE.
